Work in not necessarily our happy place, but studies show that when we’re happy in our working environment we enjoy better performance. If you’ve been unsatisfied with your job, and leave feeling tired and unhappy – it may not be your job. There are ways that you can improve your mood and energy at work so you can leave the office each day with a feeling of accomplishment.
Taking time at the end of your day to schedule out the next workday can help you reduce your anxiety at work and increase productivity. Each day, you will come in knowing more or less exactly how your day will go, which means you can focus on getting things done. Crossing items off of your list as you do them will give you a sense of accomplishment that will instantly lift your mood. Be sure to leave enough wiggle room in your schedule so that last minute projects or unexpected meetings don’t derail your day.
Feeling stuck, frustrated, or tired? Get out of your cubicle! Get up and do a lap around your office. Get a drink at the water cooler, say hi to a coworker, and get your blood circulating again. When you get up, clear all thoughts of work from your head. When you return to your desk, you’ll have a clear head and you’ll be able to start working again.
Take Your Lunch
Resist the temptation to work through lunch and eat at your desk. You may think you’re getting ahead, but you could actually be hurting your productivity. Get up, go to the break room, and socialize with your coworkers for the entirety of your lunch break. Conversations with your coworkers will refresh your mind so that you can go back to your desk with renewed energy. Taking breaks throughout the day will help clear your mind and keep you fresh and productive all day.
Decorate Your Desk
Make your workspace familiar to you. Place pictures of your loved ones, small plants, or any little knick-knacks that show off your unique personality. When you’re surrounded by things you love and find aesthetically pleasing, you’ll be much happier at work.
